Italo Ferreira nearly achieved the impossible by becoming the runner-up in WSL Finals

After eliminating rivals Ethan Ewing, Jack Robinson, and Griffin Colapinto, Italo faced American John John Florence in the final. The competition was intense, but Florence secured his third championship.

"I tried, and it was beautiful! Thank you, God, for the opportunity, and thanks to everyone for their support," said Italo, who, despite the loss, displayed determination after an irregular season and returning from an injury sustained in 2023.

It’s worth noting that since the WSL adopted the Finals format to determine the world champion, only Brazil has shone. In 2021, the trophy went to Gabriel Medina, while Filipe Toledo claimed it in 2022 and 2023.

Italo Ferreira was the only Brazilian to qualify for the WSL Finals. The Potiguar surfer won two events during the season, in Tahiti and Saquarema, which secured his spot in the final, despite a rather irregular year.

Now, he ends 2024 with his head held high and full of determination. 2025 will be a year of dedication, faith, and a lot of surfing!

Go, Italooo!
