On Sunday, May 24, Italo Ferreira won the WSL event, the New Zealand Pro, in Raglan, New Zealand. This marks Italo's first victory of the 2026 season. In addition to the trophy, the result secured the Brazilian the top spot in the men's World Surf League rankings with 22,725 points.
The event's location had already raised high expectations of a win for the World and Olympic champion, as Raglan is internationally famous for being a left-hand point break, which is ideal for goofy-footers.
“Finally, a real left on the tour this year. I dedicated myself so much over the last two months. It was time to put all my energy into this event. To win this competition, have a beautiful family, and a history on the tour is amazing. Thank you,” Italo stated upon winning.
While still in the water, Italo also dedicated the victory to his son, Martin, gesturing to mimic rocking a baby in his arms.
