Just days before competing in another WSL event, World and Olympic Surfing Champion Italo Ferreira visited his social project in Baía Formosa (RN) this Thursday (June 5). The athlete took the time to recharge his energy in his hometown before heading off for another world tour challenge.

"More than half of a surfer's life is spent traveling. When I return to Brazil, even if it's just for two days in Baía Formosa, it's a very special moment for me to be home, recharge, and get ready for another tour stop. Today I spent the morning at my Institute, visiting the kids, checking how they’re doing in school, how they’re progressing in the project—and we even got a surf session in together," said Italo.

About the Italo Ferreira Institute

The project developed by the Institute aims primarily to support the education of children, youth, and teenagers in Baía Formosa, providing complementary opportunities for learning and personal development.

The Italo Ferreira Institute (IIF) was inaugurated on October 27, 2022, turning a dream of Italo and his family into a reality for the town. Currently, the project supports 126 students aged 7 to 12 through funding from incentive laws and direct sponsorships.

At the Institute, students take part in surf lessons as well as classes in financial education, motivational leadership, environmental projects, computer literacy, and English. In addition to these activities, the Institute also offers periodic nutritional, dental, general medical, social work, and psychological services.
